Clarksville School District is proud to announce that Sharla Fultz has been selected as one of the Top 15 Finalists for the 2027 Arkansas Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Fultz is one of 15 outstanding educators from across the state being recognized for excellence in teaching, leadership, and dedication to student success.
Mrs. Fultz has dedicated 25 years to serving the students and families of Clarksville School District. She began her career as a substitute teacher before spending several years teaching second and fourth grades. She later transitioned into her current role as the district’s gifted and talented teacher.
Her commitment to students reaches well beyond classroom instruction. Mrs. Fultz coaches Quiz Bowl, encourages parent engagement, leads after-school clubs, and continually looks for opportunities to help wherever she is needed. As a Nourish the Children Ambassador, she has also led outreach efforts that have helped provide more than 67,000 meals to children in need during the past six years.
Mrs. Fultz holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of the Ozarks, a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Arkansas Tech University, and a Gifted Specialist degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
Although she was not born in Clarksville, Mrs. Fultz proudly considers herself “Clarksville made.” The support she received from the Clarksville community helped shape her life, and she remains committed to providing students with the same safe, supportive, and encouraging environment that once made such a difference in her own life.
Arkansas Department of Education officials said each finalist will receive a certificate and a $1,000 cash prize provided by the Walton Family Foundation. The teachers will be recognized at the Governor’s Mansion on Aug. 6.
